Introduction

Presentation of the Meeting

 

 

Brest métropole océane (Urban community of Brest), in partnership with the Regional Council of Brittany and the General Council of Finistère and under the patronage of the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, is organizing the International meeting on marine and coastal biodiversity with a focus on the interactions between the development of maritime territories and biodiversity. The event will be held on November 13th and 14th, 2012.

 It aims at facilitating dialogue between research organizations, companies, associations and local authorities. It will enable a better appropriation of integrated management tools by the local authorities and an exchange on prospects of development for a blue economy.

 To ensure a pluridisciplinary approach, elected representatives and technicians from local authorities, representatives of international organizations, managers of protected areas, representatives of NGOs and associations, scientists and experts from maritime territories around the world will participate in this Meeting.


Program of the Meeting

Three sessions and Workshops about :

  • The stock-take of the loss of biological diversity in marine and coastal environments - Means of action and relevance of maritime territories involvement
  • The tools devised for the management and protection of marine and coastal biodiversity
  • Prospects of development for a "blue economy" - or “How to strengthen the attractiveness of maritime territories through the protection of biodiversity”
